As the glorious warmth of the sun
nurtures all beings,
so shall we spread rays of hope
in the hearts of the lost and lonely;
give an encouraging word to those who despair;
bring light and peace to those who are afraid.
Our lives are full of opportunities to give hope
to those who yearn for God’s healing grace.
What joy comes to those who share this gift today.

Living As People Of HOPE
How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may hear His coming,
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive him still,
The dear Christ enters in.
What gives the greatest hope for your life?
Many people put their hope in the accumulation of material things, believing that this will bring happiness to their life. Over the past several years there has been a real emphasis on drawing abundance to oneself and living the prosperous life. Yet studies show that only about 10% of the happiness we feel is based on external circumstances such as, our home, house, car, clothes, gadgets. About 50% of the happiness factor comes from one’s make-up of genetics, temperament, and constitutional factors.
The other 40% comes from what we make of our lives – – on what is most meaningful to you. Lately the ancient truth is re-emerging that it is not what we GET that matters, but what we GIVE. Meaning that is found in one’s connection to the divine and to one another is the true source of our happiness and purpose in life.
I believe the most exciting revelation we discover is becoming aware that we are called to live as “little Christ’s” in the world. . . that the Divine Holy Spirit, by whatever name you call it, lives in us, through us, as us – – empowering us to be people of hope, peace, joy, and love.
It seems that when everyone “gets” this message – – this Good News – – then the kingdom, the Reign of God, will unfold “on earth as it is in heaven.” All will be fed, clothed, have shelter, and live in peace.
Advent is a time when we contemplate this truth – – when we prepare ourselves for receiving this blessing of Divine birth within us – – welcoming a new birth of God’s love to fully take over our lives. This is the HOPE we long for. This is how we live as people of HOPE.
Ask: What can I do today, Lord, to live as a person of HOPE?
O holy Child of Bethlehem
Descend to us, we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in
Be born to us today
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us
Our Lord Emmanuel
