Camas Lilies

Consider the lilies of the field,
the blue banks of camas
opening into acres of sky along the road.
Would the longing to lie down
and be washed by that beauty
abate if you knew their usefulness,
how the natives ground their bulbs
for flour, how the settlers’ hogs
uprooted them, grunting in gleeful
oblivion as the flowers fell?

And you — what of your rushed
and useful life? Imagine setting it all down —
papers, plans, appointments, everything —
leaving only a note: “Gone
to the fields to be lovely. Be back
when I’m through with blooming.”

Even now, unneeded and uneaten,
the camas lilies gaze out above the grass
from their tender blue eyes.
Even in sleep your life will shine.
Make no mistake. Of course
your work will always matter.
Yet Solomon in all his glory
was not arrayed like one of these.

Like Gentle Dew ~ ~ ~ All Shall Be Well

Your word, O Lord, like gentle dew
falls softly on my heart of hearts,
awakening me to all the glory
of this blessed day.

I behold your wonder within
a single flower –
rejoicing in the abundance of
beauty that your grace bestows.

Walking forth to meet the dawn
I carry with me the Presence
of your love —
to guide each step
with your unending care.

In the brightness of your Light
I see the way ~ ~
new vistas that shine love into each hour;
and all now shall be well . . . all shall be well.

Deep waters flowing through me,
Christening all that speaks of life,
as Your grace resides among the rivulets,
that emerge to find their Source.
With Your power and Your glory,
they gain strength to fully be ~
Streams of mercy flowing onward,
filling oceans of Love’s being.

Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory!

Peter

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my dearest husband on your
70th Birthday! Oh how I have cherished our years together.
Here is just one of your special moments.

Mine Eyes Have Seen The Glory!

It was 1965, 50 years ago this spring.
You had just turned 20, and I was 17.
We’d dated a few times and had been writing
letters to each other for a little over a year.

It was the year of the march to
Selma, Alabama; and there you were, in the midst of
making history.

You had gone off to Morehouse College, the alma mater
of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on a student exchange program . . .
one of 3 white students at an all black college for men.

I wondered: “what was this tall, blonde, handsome, Scandinavian
guy doing – – going off to risk so much in these turbulent times?
What had awakened you to this movement for civil rights?” Continue reading

What Is Your Word?

What Is Your Word?

Have you chosen your word for 2015? . . .
a word that speaks to you from the depths of your soul
. . . a word given to you by the Divine Source to
carry you through the year to inspire, encourage,
and empower you? . . .
one that energizes you to be your highest and
best self?

Last year my word was Flourish ~
and I held the image of a beautiful tree ~
flourishing into the fullness of Life and Love,
and it became so in ways I never could have
imagined ~ ~ ~ I Flourished.

This year my word is GLORY ~ ~ ~
and I am called to let the Glory of God
become fully alive in me, through me,
as me in a deeper way than ever before.
I have only just begun to know the meaning
this word has in store for me as I move
through 2015.

What is your word?
Ask ~ seek ~ ~ and you
shall find it.

It will be given to you
according to God’s will.

May it be so.

and a light unto my way.”
